The day Suriname became an independent nation and began writing its own future.
Before that, generations of Africans were taken from their homeland in chains, forced onto ships, and stripped of their freedom.
The chains were broken. Apologies have been made, but history can never be erased.
On 25 November 1975, a new chapter began.
The old book closed. A new story was written.
Suriname, located on the northern coast of South America, borders Brazil, Guyana, and French Guiana. A nation rich in cultures, traditions, resilience, and unity.
Long Live SU. 🇸🇷
This is culture. This is history. This is Suriname.
I had to create this piece in honor of the country my parents, grandparents, family, and ancestors came from.
