This design tells the story of a woman waiting for her husband. When he stayed away longer than expected, she went to the Waterkant in Paramaribo to find out where he was and what he was doing.
There she found him out on the water in his old fishing boat, trying to catch kwi kwi.
Kwi kwi is a traditional Surinamese freshwater fish that has been caught and eaten for generations. It is part of Surinamese food culture and is connected to family, sharing a meal, and memories of home.
But he wasn’t simply out fishing. He was doing it with love for his wife, trying to bring home enough to put food on the table.
Because real love isn’t only about money or being able to give each other everything. It’s about making an effort, taking care of each other, sharing what you have, and being there for one another.
